Tamarisk Ranchos is a community of unique homes designed at mid-century by noted architect William Krisel for builder Lou Halper, who also developed nearby Tamarisk Country Club. Sixteen homes are arrayed around a garden setting of citrus and date palms and face inward towards the massive central swimming pool and gardens. The architecture exhibits Krisel's classic programming with different rooflines and facades to give each home a custom look. The original owner of this home was John Guedel, a radio and television producer who created shows for Groucho Marx, also one of the original residents. So there is Hollywood history here too. Inside, the post and beam construction of precious redwood features a classic vaulted tongue and groove ceiling. The home has one of the best views at Tamarisk Ranchos. The south-facing wall of glass provides perfect orientation to the garden and mountains beyond. In addition, the home has its own private yard in the back. The house features three bedrooms and three baths and there are many original details still intact throughout. The entire community is just across the street from other important multi-million dollar architectural homes that line Tamarisk Country Club, so walking the neighborhood is a delight. The look and style of all the Tamarisk Ranchos homes have remained intact without major changes so that now the community is historically designated and each home has a bronze plaque attesting to its significance. Designation and the Mills Act bring significant property tax savings to the astute buyer of these special homes.
