For his original Palm Springs retreat, Steve McQueen chose this very private cul-de-sac home by architects Dan Palmer and William Krisel. Sited for San Jacinto views on one of the best lots in Racquet Club Estates and built by the Alexander Construction Co. It has a flexible 4th bedroom option and massive south-facing pool of McQueen's own design. Swim laps, dive off the board or lounge in one of two sunken conversation areas amidst an expansive wrap-around yard with mature trees and a citrus grove. White stone-clad facade prefaces a cool, cocoon-like, all-white interior where European minimalism meets midcentury post-and beam architecture. Life photographer John Dominis photographed McQueen here in 1963 basking poolside and slow-dancing in the living room. Period-modern features include perforated ceiling tiles, floating inset fireplace, sliding glass walls. Marble-topped Pierre Cardin cabinets pair with a Wolf range in the open kitchen. Balanced light and shade make this the ultimate pool house.
